the overall tone, character, and pacing of a piece.

Writing is a process. It can be frustrating because the process can be so disorganized and unpredictable, and the process really isn’t as well-defined as you think it is. One of the challenges of writing is that as a person, you can’t control what happens in your head. So in the process of writing, you just have to trust that your brain will come up with the right things and that you’re going to get what you want.

You have to have a good idea in your head of what you want to accomplish. Even if it is a very vague idea, you have to be sure its going to be something that is going to be fun. For example, I was talking to a friend the other day about a long-form piece I wrote. I was working on it about a week before I was going to write it.

The problem is that the very idea of what you want to do or accomplish can come out of nowhere. An author might decide that writing a blog post was what he wanted to do, or that he really wanted to go to the grocery store and get a few things, but he doesn’t know that he’ll actually get to do any of that until he decides to actually get started.

I hate to say it, but most people are not in a position to determine how they want to write their book. Even the most experienced writers who have written several books know that they only have themselves to guide them. It’s a matter of what they are willing to do, not what they want to do. That is, unless you are the type of writer who is constantly writing or rewriting or editing, you are stuck in a rut.

Once you realize how you’ve been behaving in the past few months or years, there is no need to rewrite your book. You can let it go. But in order to do that you need to become aware of what you have written (it is a habit to keep rereading what you’ve written). That awareness is an essential part of moving forward.

When I was going through the writing process for my first book, I was already aware of what I was writing about (the story of a middle aged man that I had met in a bar) because I was writing about it day in and day out. But I hadn’t really considered that it was a habit to reread what I was writing. I had written it so often in the first place that I knew I didn’t need to re-write it. It was just a habit.

I think it can be really helpful to have some sense of what kind of content we are going to be getting. It could be from a book, an article, or a blog, but it doesn’t have to be. I think it’s valuable to have some awareness of what your audience is expecting from you, and what kind of content they might find interesting and helpful to them.

This is the most important thing, I think. If you were writing an article about a project, for example, you would probably use something like Facebook’s official blog to get a reaction. But it does seem like an excellent tool to be able to learn about your audience.

Wow! I can't believe we finally got to meet in person. You probably remember me from class or an event, and that's why this profile is so interesting - it traces my journey from student-athlete at the University of California Davis into a successful entrepreneur with multiple ventures under her belt by age 25
