You can think of proactive behavior like the way that we’re on autopilot. We have to act on our instincts. But that doesn’t mean we have to let things happen to us. We can change what we do. We can make ourselves do things we never thought of just because we want to. We can do things that we never thought possible.
We don’t have a lot of time. We have a lot of time. So if we want to do something, we have to act. But we can’t always do it. In fact, many of our habits are just habits that we just thought of, and are not really going to work.
Of course, this is not actually a very good idea. I can’t imagine how terrifying it would be for a dog to suddenly decide to go for a walk and then suddenly find himself on a tree branch, with a sword in his back. Or a human being to suddenly find that the only way he will see his wife is through a computer screen. Or a cat to suddenly decide he has to go outside and die. Or us to suddenly not be able to go to the bathroom.
